Declassified Files Provide Insight into Indonesia's Democratic Transition | Voice of America - English: Newly declassified files from the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta from 1997 to 1999 provide fresh insight into American foreign policy in Indonesia during its tumultuous transition from the Suharto military dictatorship to fledgling democracy, as well as into the Asian financial crisis that swept the region around the same time.The roughly 500 documents were declassified before being published by the nonprofit National Security Archive at George Washington University.
